Shafee are you your own most favourite person?

Looking deep into your own eyes, or another’s, can be an uncomfortable experience because not all of us are prepared for the truths revealed

On the face of it, it’s difficult to figure why Anwar is treated as a heinous offender by the  Malaysian criminal justice system because, according to his prosecutors But , Muhammad Shafee celebrity federal prosecutor currently pursuing Anwar with great ferocity, is hardly going after friends of Mahathir and Najib  of a large number on this score from leading the Attorney General’s Chambers’ appeal against Anwar Ibrahim’s acquittal for sodomy. Shafee’s appointment as Deputy Public Prosecutor smacks of desperation and sets another bad precedent, sending the wrong message that the authorities will go to extraordinary lengths to secure the conviction of UMNO’s political adversaries.Shafee is a well known UMNO lawyer and has appeared in court and advised in several matters that concern UMNO’s interests and has admitted so in his CV.Umno lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah (pic) and Putrajaya will suffer from negative public perception if he is made the Attorney General, a lawyers group said.
Lawyers for Liberty adviser and co-founder Eric Paulsen said Putrajaya should not even consider Shafee a candidate for the job as “he is carrying too much baggage”.
“The office of the AG is sacrosanct and any candidate must be seen to be neutral and above politics,” Paulsen told The Malaysian Insider.
He has acted and advised former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor, all known and bitter political adversaries of Anwar Ibrahim. Shafee is also presently defending a few high profile defamation cased filed by Anwar Ibrahim appeal case that went awry? .The most important issue is is the power struggle between Mahathir and Najib , why did then Shafee give up his cover and focus attention on Anwar? Shafee is key fixer in Baginda non appeal freedom while Ghani is chief  architect of sodomy1 and 2 with appeal . There are no easy answers but it is conceivable that Shafee realized that he was being watched and put pressure by Rosmah pointing out that Ghani was vulnerable If this is the case, then kudos to Ghani smart enough to realize that he was being targeted. As pressure mounted on Najib to remove Ghani first Mahathir and then Rosmah put counterpressure on Shafee. Ghani by filing a case agaist Mat Zain possibly got some help  from a US CIA agents working at Attorney Generaloffice of Malaysia. He said if Shafee was appointed or even considered for the post, then the whole debacle that had plagued the AG’s position would turn from bad to worse because he (Shafee) is “through and through an Umno lawyer”.
He said Shafee had acted and advised previous prime ministers and even current premier and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak on various matters.
“Shafee was also known to have taken up adversarial position against the opposition, especially Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“That is why, it is all the more inappropriate for him to be involved in Anwar’s sodomy case. The public perception is that if he successfully secured a conviction for the prosecution, there will be a trade off, and Shafee gets to be the next AG,” said Paulsen.
On January 9, 2012, the High Court in Kuala Lumpur acquitted Anwar on a charge of sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 26, at the Desa Damansara condominium unit in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, on June 26, 2008.
Shafee is expected to lead the prosecution when the Court of Appeal hears the public prosecutor’s appeal on February 12.
Paulsen was commenting on The Malaysian Insider report today where Shafee had said that he would take up the position of Attorney General as “service to the public was far more important than making money”.
“I would take any position to do public service. And if that public service is something I am qualified for, if the government really requires me, I will take it,” said the 61-year-old Shafee.
Shafee said rumours of him becoming the AG had been around since the time of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, some 15 to 20 years ago.
He had said that his appointment as ad hoc deputy public prosecutor to lead the prosecution team to overturn the acquittal of Anwar, should also be seen as doing public service.
Paulsen said Shafee’s admission confirmed what has been an open secret for a long time among the legal fraternity.
He said there was no doubt that Shafee’s grasp of the law and capability was par excellence, but the question remained whether as AG he would enjoy public confidence and trust.
“The office of the AG cannot be tainted,” Paulsen added.
Paulsen drew a parallel with the appointment of Tun Zaki Azmi, a former Umno lawyer, who was put on an “express path” straight to the post of Federal Court judge in 2007 and later made chief justice.
He said eyebrows were raised every time a case linking Putrajaya and Umno, such as the Perak constitutional crisis, came up, as to whether Zaki had a hand in manipulating judgments.
Lawyers for Liberty had two weeks ago questioned Shafee’s role as the lead prosecutor in the sodomy case after the High Court dismissed his appeal after he was fined RM5,000 by the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board for breaching the publicity rule under the Legal Profession Act.
Paulsen then had said this was another reason why AG Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail should take away the licence given to Shafee to handle Anwar’s case. – January
At the heart of the matter lies the decision to criminalise behaviour that asked to be understood with some sensitivity. The face-off is the result of a mismatch between two different contexts, both in terms economic and cultural. It is possible to dismiss these and argue in an absolute sense that a clear violation of  Malaysian law took place, and the law of the land acted without making any exceptions.
We have all heard that eyes are the windows to the soul; they indicate the real you. Have you tried looking deep into your own eyes? Most people are scared of doing so, even as self-help gurus encourage us to do so. For, our eyes can sometimes reveal truths that we are not prepared to face. You could fool the whole world and even yourself into believing whatever your mind wants you to believe, but the accusing look, the hurt in your eyes will pull you up sharply. As beautifully put by a poet trying to explain the connection between eyes and the soul, “Eyes mirror our souls… actually they don’t. They have been carved out of our souls.”
Just like the body, the eyes have a language of their own. Here are some interesting tips from body language experts, which will help you unravel the language of the eyes. Too much blinking can indicate discomfort, while someone who hardly blinks may be trying to hide something. Looking directly at you? Interested in you and the conversation. Too prolonged a gaze? Threatening and could be obsessive. Looking away frequently? Distracted and hiding something. Looking closely at the eyes of a romantic interest can help you figure out if they are interested in you. Dilated pupils indicate interest.
If a person looks up towards the left, he is trying to visualise an image; when he looks up towards the right, he is trying to remember an actually remembered image. When someone looks down towards the left, experts say he is trying to recreate a remembered taste, touch or vision. When he looks down towards the right, he is talking to himself.  Sometimes you do not realise you are in the midst of a vast silence till it is pierced through with sound. Often, you may not notice noise until it ends abruptly and silence prevails. You may not notice how dark it is till a light is flicked on. Sometimes you do not know how agitated you have been, till a caressing hand calms you. The absence of some people makes you realise the significance of their presence.Mat Zain accuses  Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah   of being LIAR, FABRICATOR and MANIPULATOR
the man who is the real mastermind behind this latest conspiracy to frame Anwar is Shafee Abdullah. Just days before the sodomy allegation exploded, and even before Saiful’s meeting with Rodwan on 25 June 2008, Shafee was in Najib’s house to attend a gathering. And in front of scores of witnesses he asked to be excused early because he ‘had a very big fish to catch’. Shafee conveniently made it known that he is behind the move to catch the ‘big fish’ and he wanted all those in Najib’s house to be aware that Najib was in the know. Actually, Najib did not know what he was talking about and assumed that the ‘big fish’ meant Raja Petra Kamarudin and was with regards to the Statutory Declaration that he had signed just days earlier on 18 June 2008.
Shafee was supposed to have led the prosecution against Anwar. A provision in the law called FIAT allows the Attorney-General to appoint an outsider to conduct the prosecution. If Shafee does well then he would most likely be appointed the next Attorney-General. When word got out that he is heading the special police operations centre, which was located in his office, they had to abandon the whole idea.
Shafee’s hands are behind the whole thing. And this can only happen with Abdullah’s blessing. No, it is not Mahathir who is behind this. And it is not Abdullah, Najib and Anwar who are the three victims. The victims are Mahathir, Najib and Anwar. Abdullah is the hidden hand and Shafee is the henchman who was tasked with the job of implementing the evil deed. Politics is not what it always appears to be in MalaysiaToday’s self-assertive culture is all about stating clearly your desires and wants, and expecting to fulfill them. We have allowed ourselves to imagine we have a right to get whatever we want; this creates a sense of entitlement that makes us selfish and self-centred, blurring needs from wants. It is important to define the tipping point at which a want becomes a need and to understand well the reasons for allowing this walkover. We all wish to cater to our needs, but it is essential that we understand what they are and how important these are to us. Sadly, most of our needs are dictated by someone else. We wish to acquire that bigger mansion, that fancy car or those expensive trinkets all in an attempt to outdo others and prove we are no less than anybody else. What a waste! These are precisely the ‘wants’ that masquerade as ‘needs’.
For a need to be genuine, it has to rise from within, be a growl within the system, something that is a must for inner happiness, our very growth, or maybe a one-off that fuels the rest of life! Need is not about others, it is about one’s own self. So whereas it is acceptable that many of yesterday’s ‘wants’ are today’s ‘needs’, one has to be cautious and alert enough to recognise the difference. What are the requirements to satisfy, to complete one’s own self? These are the additional needs of each individual over and above food, shelter, clothes and sex.
We need to keep redefining and adding new ‘needs’ because life demands that we pull ourselves up from the level of bare essentials to a level where we can start thinking of individual development and progress — physical, mental and spiritual. True, no hungry, unsheltered, unclothed man has the bandwidth to think of these realms, but once basic needs are met, we owe it to ourselves and to life to acquire and use the tools that make life and the world a better place for us to live in.
But beware of convincing yourself that every selfish want is a need you have to cater to! Do not fight the wants, just filter them before you let them enter the exclusive “Needs Club”!
